Liang Su: MiTAC Smart City Solutions act an enabler / facilitator role in Taiwan and global market
Most cities have become increasingly interested in ‘Smart City’ solutions recently. However, that most cities have only vague notions of what a smart city investment would require in terms of policy frameworks and investments related to data management and cloud service, to institutional arrangements to champion smart city activities, and how benefit concretely from such investments. In short, cities need objective guidance to define smart city strategy, set priorities, promote smart city investments, develop data sharing/management policies, and support such activities in a coherent manner. Therefore, MiTAC’s aim is to create ‘Smart City Integrated Solutions’, not just a city where a lot of technology and sensors are installed — it’s about learning to do things differently as innovation lies in the application of knowledge.
Liang Su, chairman of MITAC Information Technology Corp. (MiTAC ITC,) and the chairman of Taiwan Smart City Solutions Alliance (TSSA), said in an exclusive interview with “International Media Delegation of 2018 Taiwan Excellence” on 19 April at MiTAC HQ. Su expressed ‘the use of IoT can make municipal construction that people can really feel and touch the heart, so many new cities are expected to build IOT platform that people can feel as the first step for Smart City initiatives and development’. In other words, Smart City is crucial to being the field for applying the IoT”, and that “IoT is a vital foundation to the realization of Smart City”. Thus, Su proudly introduce MiTAC Smart City Solutions – The world 1st ISO certified international standard IoT and Smart City Cloud Platform (it so-called MiOGC & MiCloud 2.0). This Open Data information exchange platform allows seamlessly share and connect various IoT systems with real-time data integration and analysis.
To help delegates know the detail after interview with Su, he assigned Chin-Sheng Chiu, Vice President of MiTAC ITC, and former senior Smart City specialist of European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), to introduce ‘MiTAC Solutions in Smart City’ and visit ‘MiTAC Innovation Hub’ – A test lab of Smart City Solutions.Chiu expressed that ‘ Smart City is an integrated concept to enhance competitiveness and quality of life by applying real-time urban data analytics using the Internet of Things (IoT) and other data driven solutions to improve the efficiency, reliability, sustainability and quality of urban infrastructure and associated public services for citizens ’. Therefore, the recommendations of the Smart City Strategies will be turned into practical actions that will be developed into a project implementation plan.Due to the scope of Smart City service are very wide. To facilitate IoT implementation will based on production-ready components and simple workflow builder and data visualization tools allow smart city integrators and device manufactures to build smart products much faster and with full freedom to customize or integrate with anything else. Therefore, MiTAC specifically build an ‘Innovation’ Hub for Smart City Development. The purpose are (1) Integration Site – Enterprise Resource Sharing; (2) Test Area – Research and Development Center; (3) Demo Room.
How SMART is your city? It depends on how ‘interconnected’ are your city systems, it also depends on how ‘innovative’ are your city systems. A key goal of a Smart City is to enhance the use of public resources, increasing the quality of services offered to its citizens while reducing operational costs. While this objective cannot be achieved with technology alone, leveraging the deployment of IoT within a city can go a long way to reaching this goal. In light of above, MiTAC Smart city solutions powered by the IoT Platform place specific emphasis on the efficient use of the city infrastructure, public service facilities, such as Smart Transportation, Smart Street Light, Smart Library, Smart Healthcare and Smart Manufacturing (Industry 4.0).
