Philippine immigration E-Gates launching
Bureau of Immigration(BI), Republic of the Philippines launched its Electronic Gate System (E-Gate) project which aims to improve the processing time of international passengers and to lessen long queues at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on July 19 .
The E-Gates are provided with modern security features such as facial recognition, biometric scanning, barcode reading, and smart card recognition.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the Bureau expects to cut the processing time of passengers from the present 45 seconds to just 8 to 15 seconds. Otherwise, E-Gate project will also enhance the BI’s ability to detect passengers with derogatory records, including wanted fugitives and those who are in the immigration blacklist, watch list and hold departure list.
21 units of e-gates will installed at four international airports in the country. These are the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 with five e-gates; Terminal 3 with six; Mactan-Cebu International Airport with five; Clark International Airport with three; and Davao International Airport with two.
