MiTAC Software R&D Center: New Culture, New Talents
The R&D Center for MiTAC Information Technology is starting its second year of operation. It gave MiTAC’s R&D some fresh energy over the past year. MiTAC Information Technology has created a creative office space on the fourth floor to provide software professionals with a non-traditional working environment in order to facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration. Software R&D is no longer a dull job thanks to the design of an office that doubles as a cafe.
As you enter the office space on the fourth floor of the MiTAC Neihu headquarters, you will see the classic MiTAC logo in red and blue. With an elegant sofa seating area, a 180-inch projection screen, and a coffee-scented pantry, the bright and spacious guest-welcoming area makes first-time visitors feel immediately at ease. The main office space is separated from the reception area by electronically controlled film glass that can be quickly turned opaque or transparent and switched to meeting privacy mode. The face recognition lockers created by MiTAC for employees to store their belongings are located on the right side of the office space. Simply “scan your face” to open and automatically lock the locker door without a key or locker number.
Four different types of spaces make up the main office area: an open communication area, a green bar in the middle, an open stairway meeting space, and a closed meeting room with a color scheme. The overall layout is a combination of open and closed areas, with communal areas for socializing and connection and private quiet spaces for those who prefer peace and quiet. The design is a return to human nature, similar to the wall logo which states, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” It is designed to meet the needs of every employee, allowing them to enjoy their work and effectively foster collaboration and creativity.
In addition to a sense of technology, there is also a sense of happiness.
Worried about the lack of inspiration and motivation at work? The workplace environment has an impact on employees’ moods and morale and serves as one of the key indicators of how well-treated employees are by the company. Coffee and snacks are readily available around-the-clock for employees to use in order to help them feel happy while working in the software R&D center. In the future, a “venting room” will also be constructed so that staff members can utilize the venting tools as much as possible to efficiently and directly release emotional tension.
Kent Chen, vice president of the MiTAC Information Technology R&D center, stated that the software R&D personnel have responded positively since moving in. With the renovation of the hardware space and the addition of cross-disciplinary talents, a multiplier effect has been created, and a new collaborative culture is beginning to emerge at MiTAC. It is hoped that the creative office space will attract more software talent.
